The old myth saying that men think about sex all the time is to be debunked as the latest survey showed that four out of ten men think of sex as too troublesome.
Specialists say that more and more men do not want to have sex because of the lack of libido rather than physical inability to perform. As much as fifty percent of men do not wish to be bothered about sex. Most of the surveyed men were aged between 30 and 50 and were married.
Peter Bell, an expert of Relate, UK's largest provider of relationship counseling and sex therapy said that a lot of men now complain about lack of sexual desire, saying that it's not "rewarding". While most men used to ask for help when facing erectile dysfunction, today the increasing number of them report about overall lack of libido.
He said that this issue is considered as a psychosexual dysfunction and not a problem within a relationship. Many men have very good relationships with their wives but they just gone off sex altogether.
Bell explained that the reason for such a change is the high rates of depression, extended working hours and stress among middle-aged men. The problem is getting worse with the fact that most men tend to hinder their emotions and find it difficult to talk out about things that bother them.
Cary Cooper, a professor of British Association of Counselling added that most men cannot simply "switch off and relax".
